A number of different professionals require your skills if you are a good transcriptionist. Lawyers, surgeons, corporations, insurance adjustors, reporters, even college students can require dictation to be typed. This job really allows today's telecommuter to remain at home, saving thousands on gas. If you have a computer, can type, have internet access and self-discipline, you can be a transcriptionist.

Where do you find transcription work?

There is a great new vehicle out there for transcriptionists needing to find jobs called www.jobspooler.com. They bring employers and independent contractor transcriptionists together by posting jobs that require finishing in a hurry. You, as the transcriptionist, are called the "Spoolsmith" and you can work on "threads" which are small portions of a very large transcription project. The employer may need a 3 hour long interview completed in say 3 hours. A thread may be composed of 5 minutes of that 3 hour long interview or 1/36th of it. The interview is thus broken up into 36 threads and you can take as threads as you want. You get paid per thread and you get paid immediately not when your paycheck is due. They are a new start up so get the word out. By the way, I have not gained a thing by blogging about them here I was just impressed with their set-up.
